Hi all

We obliterated our jib a few weeks ago in 35 knots and need a cheap one to get back out asap, Does anyone have such an item they would sell?

Many thanks
Micky

Hi Micky

I have an old jib if that that what you are looking for it won't win the nationals but will get you back on the water. message me on this site if you are interested. I am based in B'mouth if that helps for collection, i guess postage will be about £15

How do you go about posting a jib?

I have 2 Sobstad jibs of varying qualities.

hmm good question Pete I imagine wrapping it in plastic like bin liners, then adding a canny bit of tape might work?

If it possible how much would you be looking for and what are the conditions of the sails?

Cheers
Micky

Both Sobstads, one I will never use again, but is good enough for general sailing / club racing. It has no battens on the leech - they blew off! But appart from that it is a good jib. It hasn't delaminated.

The other is a good sobstad with the alternate mylor / dacron panels. I would be happy to race with this sail when my Hyde falls to bits, and having just put my Hyde sails to bed for the winter, I notice the condition of my Hyde jib - not good, so this Sobstad will have to stay with me. Hyde jibs don't like going under water during a capsize!

well the one that you say you will never use again sounds a lot better than the fishing net I have for a Jib! the leech has totally delaminated leaving quite literally a net!

Would you be willing to post it, if so let me know some prices.

Are the Hydes really worth the money as I hear a lot about them falling to pieces. Given my capsize record for this season I guess Hydes aren't going to be my choice of sail just yet!

I'll package it up, get some prices and get back to you in a couple of days.

Hyde jibs are not for the capsize kings and queens amongst us.

I did not know you were a king or a queen, best to keep the flappy bit up.
