Stralsund , Germany 3rd to 8th of August.
Only 550 miles from Dunkirk to Stralsund everybody. Its looks a lovely place to visit and lots to do. You can camp or campervan next to the club too. Harwich to Dunkirk is the cheaper option for the ferries too. or some people can fly to berlin only 60km away or so.
Hope to see you all there and support Nik in his efforts and to make a great euro 2009.
Neil

hallo all Iso sailors out there
Senior management has said she would like to be at Stralsund.
My idea is to have some competition for crews who find a full-blown championship a bit overpowering and would like more time to relax and explore the Baltic/german haute cuisine/beer/beach time. Format of this idea is to be agreed with the organising team, may be simply a rating based on participation in a limited number of designated races.
The ISO fleet wants to encourage all ages and abilities to be there.
The baltic in August is wonderful, I cannot say anything about what wind is likely, but weather should be settled and warm.
I also have management clearance to declare our entry in Nik's regatta in Trier where I broke my coccyx last year...

sign up now! it will be different from Garda/La Rochelle.
we are also discussing how much longer we will keep the beast - it may be our last eurocup.

best wishes from a cold place in the middle of europe

Quite unfortunately, I guess, there has been a simultaneous decision about events with a partial overlap... the Italian Nationals for ISO and Buzz will end on August 2nd, so boat+teams transfer to the baltic overnight might be tricky... We'll see what we can do. What's the feeling for the Buzz fleet? lately it seemed most take part to the EC every other year, so would be good to know if it's the same for 2009, before booking spaceships for transport...

What do you think about the following schedule

Sa 01. August Arrival
Su 02. August Sailing tour / free training
Mo 03. August 1. training
Tu 04. August 2. training
We 05. August 1. racing day 3-4 races
Th 06. August 2. racing day 3-4 races
Fr 07. August 3. racing day 3-4 races
Sa 08. August 4. racing day 3-4 races
Su 09. August Departure

1 or 2 days with cultural programm. City tour, museum, open air musical (extra charge).

So the Italian boats might have enough time to come.

If the italians boats are going to come then we should be accomodating and start on the tuesday and finish sat so five days racing, one training day on the monday, happy to run this with pete or who ever.
Can we get some kind of indication from the italian fleet if they will attend the euros if we make time for them?
If they are not going to make the effort to travel this year out of italy we need to know so we can stay with our exsisting plan of starting on monday

Hi, I did a quick check with the iso sailor I expected to be the one likely interested...
None of them confirmed he will come (but none of them told me that he will not come for sure either)
Paolo is doing a similar check for the buzz fleet

My personal feeling is that non more that 2 teams will seriously consider coming all the way, unless there is a huge number of boats likely to attend.

I think we should open (as previous year) a pre-entry form on the web: I think that if many people will register it will be more tempting for everybody, if there will be only a few pre-entry I guess people will prefer to join other events (closer)

From the information I have up to now, the Buzzes do not seem to be coming in numbers, so also the Italian lfeet will probably not travel to Germany. This could leave me free for an ISO, possibly, if I find someone... I think some Italian will like to come, even if not many, so postponing first race to Tue-Wed will be appreciated.

the last information I have says that it is likely that 2-3 ISO teams will join you in Germany...
I hope to be one of them

for info, we have booked to stay at "Hotel-Pension zum Brauhaus
Greifswalder Chaussee 45, 18439 Stralsund". This is near the railway station slightly south of the town centre. Costs €75/night for a double with (recommended by various guests from the past) an epic breakfast buffet, exactly what is required before a long day on the race course and in the protest room...

There is a place for tents at the mark Sarnowstrasse 44, 5 minutes to the boats, have a look to the dedicated page isoracing.org.uk/events_results/dedicated_pages/2009/2009_euro
cup_stralsund.htm . This should be very cheap. It is not a camp site, rather a sporting arena. For my son and me I have booked an appartement. Mollycoddle!!!

Hi everybody,

booking rooms in Stralsund you will get help of the tourist office, english speaking, tel +49 3831 246969.

Events during the week:
August 01.09 Carmina Burana (Carl Orff, mighty chorus, very impressive, perhaps you know the song "O fortuna", it is used in some commercials,
)

during the week: Das Land des Lächelns, the land of smile (operetta, Franz Lehár, open air nice and very famous,
)

August 08.09 Night of the open monument/memorial

Stralsund is UNESCO world heritage site. I think, we will have a fantastic week there

Cheers Nik
