TOPIC: Northern ISO Events

Northern ISO Events 1 year, 10 months ago #247

Hello everyone, now that winter has finally loosened its' grip and the water up here has become less 'stiff', we actually took the boat out for a sail! And so full of enthusiasm I have been planning my season of events. I am hoping to get to at least one of the offcial class events but I am posting my favourites here in the hope that other ISO's will join us or perhaps suggest some of their own.
5/6 June Filey Regatta
20 June Grimwith Grapple, Yorkshire Dales S.C
3/4 July Lord Birkett Trophy, Ullswater Y.C
7/8 August Ullswater Regatta
12 September Yorkshire Dales S.C windward/leeward
The Lord Birkett is a truly iconic event that everybody should sail at sometime, 200 boats on one start line! Cruisers, skiffs, Mirrors and everything in between. Ullswater and Filey will recognise any class with six entries as a fleet which surely must be achievable. So if anyone can join us or has their own favourite regatta please post.

I will be up for the Birkett!

Excellent Micky! See you there. Last year there were 3 ISO's. If we can make it 6 they will give us fleet status!! Mick. 645.

Hi Mick,

Would be great to see some more ISO's at Yorkshire Dales. We have pencilled in the Grapple and Windward Leeward. YDSC is a great place to visit now. Brand new club house, good sized water and usually a good breeze being high up in the Dales.

Yes Mark, we enjoy sailing at Grimwith and shall certainly be there for the Grapple. Indeed, the new clubhouse is a great benefit, especially the under floor heating in the changing rooms! We just need to spread the word and get a few more ISO's up there. Mick. 645.

The advice for the Birkett is to pre-enter as they may have to put a limit on numbers. Also camping at the club will be limited this year because the club facilities are located in porta cabins due to flood damage to the clubhouse. There are two excellent campsites nearby so this is no problem. We only need 6 ISO's to get fleet recognition so please make the effort - it's certainly a unique event. Mick ISO 645
