I bought my Iso in November after not sailing for ages I think I may of overboated myself especially as I wanted to teach the wife to sail !! Anyway yesterday I was all set to take electric ferret out on Stithians Lake, weather was windy but manageable then it started gusting 30 mph ish and with no way of reefing the main so we decided to call it a day and not go out. On getting home I decided that perhaps we should change the Iso for something less powerful. I put it on Apollo Duck website at 1 am this morning and by 9.30 am I have had 3 calls asking when they can pick it up. However today is a glourious day sun is shining etc And I've changed my mind !!! I love the Iso and I can't compare it to any other. I think I need to learn to sail it properly to get my confidence with it. My question is Does anyone on the forum live around Cornwall that would like to go out with me to show me how to sail the boat / rig the boat properly! will reward with beer and bbq !

Hi

The ISO does have a fair bit of power, but it is controllable.

Although the boat does not reef, you can de-power it quite a bit, this is easier with new sails as it is easier to get them flat, but the same techniques will work with old sails to.

Finding a local sailor to help is a good idea, Restonguet sailing club has a few ISO sailors and some good ones at that, so maybe try them for a chat, Chris Webber is a good place to start.

Just a few pointers on how to de-power in case you want to sail before you can get any help.

Rake the mast back a bit, Rake the spreaders back, get the barber and Cunningham on hard, let the swatcher (mast gate) off, loosen the Barbers, lots of kicker.

One of the best ways to learn about your ISO is to come to an event, The Pro / Am system means that the back markers of the fleet get help rigging and tuning their boats from the better sailors, so come along. We are a friendly bunch.

Also scour the help guides. They weren't created for no reason.

Thanks for your advice Rob, I'll have a play with that next week. I hope to get myself along to an event soon. unfortunatly work always gets in the way for me.

Josh,

Thats awesome. do you have your boat in Plymouth? If you do I could meet you in Plymouth If easier or I'll sort out your fuel etc to come down here. Plymouth is about 45 mins my home but about 1.45 hrs away from the lake I sail at.

what days are good for you ? I don't generally work on a tuesday and I get 1 in 3 Sundays off.

Many Thanks

Symon
