Hi Guys, I thought I'd share my most recent sailing story and a warning about the over-enthusiasm of a new emergency relaese trapeze harness. My crew invested in a new trapeze harness featuring an emergency release hook. We went out for a training sail and started a nice downwind blast, on the first gybe all went well untill we set the spinaker for the new tack and I realised I was alone in the boat. On crunching up to push out of the boat the crew had forced a buckle across his abdomen into the emeergency release and ejected the hook with predictable results. Looking at the design of the harness it looks like poor geometry, caveat emptor!!

ps love the recent combination of hot sun and plenty of breeze on the East coast. Bring it on!

I have been using a Gill Skiff harness with a quick release button for about 5 years now and have never experienced such a problem. The only issue I had was when I first got it and sailing on a Laser 5000 my helm couldn't resist the temptation of the red button! I'll leave the rest to your imagination!

I could only suggest re adjusting all of the straps to see if it will make a difference to where the button is in relation to any buckle that may cause and unexpected swim!

Let me how your getting on

Thanks Micky, after a bit of research and a couple of pints I think we worked out that he had put the harness on with the lumbar support buckle outside everything else not underneath as per the design, hence the buckle was able to foul the release button. So hopefully won't happen again.

Yeah I can see how that would cause a problem!
