Hi Visitor, there has been two events recently (that I know of at least), one ISO Open at Calshot SC nr Southampton, and a big trophy event at Essex YC - where the ISO's did rather well!
Calshot ISO Open: Remember Winter ? Well it arrived on Saturday 25th to welcome the ISOs to Calshot. Bright sun and a cold Northerly F4 tempted the dry suits out of Summer storage and back into action. The start line provided a short beat to the in shore marks with Commodore Dave and Rachel in 1002 leading the pack around home waters. Bob and Duncan in 814 gave chase along with Colin and Alison in Serenity with Rob, returning to racing after almost 2 years knee injury, with sister Liz as crew. A newly purchased ISO decided to stay ashore in the rather gusty conditions. Full Report On ISORacing.org.uk
Essex Ingram Trophy: In force 4-5 winds gusting 6 the five Clubs on the north shore of the Thames Estuary competed on 26 September for 5 long established trophies. There were 75 boats entered and the large majority started. In the Ingram Shield a team of 3 ISOs from the Essex Yacht Club prevailed over teams of Dart 16s, Lasers and RS200s as well as two teams of the locally based class of EODs. Upcoming Events:
FREE Training day FRIDAY 1st October The overall aim of the training day is of course to attract you to join in the Inland Championships over the following two days. Only downside is - you need to take a day off work! Ahh shame! :)
If you are coming to this FREE training day, could you please email me to let me know - it will help us plan the day and resources better.
The forecast is for it to be flippin windy! But if it is too windy, Rob and myself have plenty of ISO related help / tweaks and information to overwhelm you with! Be at the visitors beach (Google Map Here...) at 10:00 with your masts up and covers off.
- 10:00 - 11:00 rigging and tuning talk.
- 11:00 - 11:30 ensuring all boats are in one piece and set up as required & get changed.
- 11:30 - 14:00 on the water 1 or 2 lap races (nothing serious)
- 14:00 - 15:00 Break / debrief / brief
- 15:00 - 16:30 on the water 1 or 2 lap races (again nothing too serious)
- 16:30 - 17:30 Break / debrief
17:30 covers on, get changed, off to B&B's / pubs / hotels for food and drink (you pay your own way here!)
- All on the water stuff will be recorded on the camcorder for the debriefs. See how well you are performing out there on / in the wet stuff
- We will ensure your rudders are set up correctly - you have no idea how many are not;
- any required important tweaks will be applied to your boat.
- Tuning talk will be how to set your boat up for light, medium and strong winds.
- hands on practical demonstrations of how to crew and helm the boat in all winds strengths and points of sailing.
After sailing, it will be down the pub for an evening meal and socialising, before early to bed to get rest for the Inland Championships on Saturday & Sunday. How can you afford not to be there on Friday? You only need to be an Associate Member of the ISO Class Association.
I'll be there late Thursday night (23:00+) and sleeping in my van ready for an early start in my drysuit to rig 1013.
ISO Inlands: 2nd & 3rd October. This is the event that follows the training day on the 1st October - would you believe it?
This is the last planned event of the year so far. Saturday night we will all be gathering for a meal in the Duncow Inn in Dunchurch at about 19:30.
Notice of Race and SI's are available on ISORacing.org.uk
You do not have to pre enter or pre pay to come along and join in. The forcast is for it to be nice and windy for the training day, but light to moderate for the actual event - typical!
Anyway, hope to see you there.
