To summarize what was an excellent event,

Day 1:

20 ISO's turned up from 4 different countries. Although 815 pulled out 3 straight wins, it was clear the Italians had figured out how to sail the ISO. Full day report...

Day 2:

The report for day 2 was lost in cyber space between Italy and England. But as we are summarising,

Wonderful conditions on garda for the second day of races, and 3 more races concluded with three wins for Mike Lillywhite & Mark Riddington (GBR 815).

Good results also for the italian team Marco Monciardini-Matteo Moscatelli (ITA 1200) who reach the second place in the overal standing with two seconds and a third. To be metioned also the good performance of Lorenzo and Emiliano Guidolin (ITA 1157), leading most of race 4 and only surrending to the regatta leader only in the end of the race, and the reliable performance of Gatti brothers (ITA 1195) , always in the top of the fleet with no black-outs.

In the evening Eurocup party at the sailing club.

Day 3:

Stronger winds, 815 pulled out a fluke and won a race after restarting due to them being ocs. Full day report...

Day 4:

Too much wind, then no wind, lots of bobbing around on the water trying to get a race in, all abandoned for the rest of the day. 815 feel like rockstars - autographing buoancy aids for the locals! Full day report...

My spin for the regatta report is somewhat different as we did rather less competitive sailing than anyone else. However as editor-in-chief Colin, you may use all, some, or none from the following observations.

Sunday, arrived early dog-tired, no inclination for boat assembly. Amazed to meet Mike Preater for the first time, must remember not to moan any more about my right knee which is showing first signs of arthiritis.

The Reason

I have always hated the ISO dagger board, mainly due to its weight. On talking to some 49er people at my club. I found out that their boards are now up to a mark three dagger board, and as they are custom fit to the boat, there are spare old boards around.

Calshot-Lymington Long Distance Race PDF Print E-mail

Three ISO's, several catamarans and an RS200 participated in this years Calshot SC Long Distance Race. This is a fun race and something different from the usually small lap racing. In fact there are no buoys to round at all. Just sail down half of the solent from the start line off Calshot SC to a finish line at the Lymington starting platform. Then have a leisurely lunch at Lymington Town SC followed by another race back to Calshot.
